A victim-centred approach to the work of the Register of Damages for Ukraine
The creation of a compensation mechanism for Ukraine is of great importance for international law from several perspectives. In addition to bringing Russia to justice as the state responsible for the damage, this is a chance to develop tools to effectively restore the rights of the victims. After all, at the international level, universal and effective mechanisms for restoring the rights of victims in the case of compensation for damage caused by armed aggression are an opportunity to establish standards that will later serve as models.
Such standards should be based on a victim-centred approach.
